What was supposed to a quick trip to the store turned out to be the last trip two cousins would ever get to take.
The end of the year is a time when families and friends make it a point to get together to celebrate the holidays. According to KOB 4, cousins Kayden and Jakob Montoya decided to take a quick ride to pick up a last-minute supply for a Thanksgiving party, a trip that should have only lasted about eight minutes. But, after an hour had passed and there was no sign of the Montoya’s, family members grew worried. James Montoya, Kayden’s dad, left to see if he could find the two boys. After driving for about 30 seconds, he came upon police lights and tape sectioning off the intersection of Irving and Universe. James Montoya said that he knew instantly what the tape had meant.
Apparently, Dominic Martinez, 21, had driven through the intersection traveling at speeds that nearly reached 100 mph when he collided into the Montoya’s. The two boys were pronounced dead at the scene. Instead of the family spending their Thanksgiving holiday being grateful for all that they have, instead, they were forced to spend it mourning the death of two of their family members all because of Martinez’s careless actions.
As devastated as the family is, they believe something needs to be done about the intersection at Universe and Irving. The source highlighted that the family proposed that the intersection be transformed into a roundabout seeing that drivers continue to disregard the stop signs and the stop lights that have been placed there.
